Catalogue Item GLS-TOP-MT-12 Velvet Suede Texture 12 ml Matte Glass Bottle

Velvet suede matte top coat converts glossy lacquer into an ultra-soft non-yellowing satin veil.

Engineered with microscopic spherical silica matting agents suspended evenly in a flexible polymer base. Delivers a soft-touch cashmere feel without the chalky white haze, rough abrasive drag, or rapid sebum staining typical of standard matte finishes.

$13 USD per 12 ml piece

Top coats span $7–$18 USD per piece across the studio catalogue. Velvet Suede sits at $13 USD due to colloidal spherical silica matting technology and 12 ml volumetric packaging. Non-binding quotation provided upon direct desk inquiry.

Technician Testing Observation • Salon Practice Since 2022 Standard matte top coats look satin on day one, but by day four, the friction from natural skin sebum and friction against clothing rubs the surface back into an uneven, blotchy half-shine. Velvet Suede uses sub-micron spherical silica that locks into the polymer matrix, resisting oil burnishing for over fourteen days.

Customer Inquiry • Cleanliness & Staining
"Does this matte top coat turn dirty brown or absorb makeup pigments when I apply daily cosmetic foundation?"
Glossiques Desk Reply Silica Surface Porosity

Cheap matte coats use coarse, jagged industrial silica that creates open pores on the surface of the nail. Those microscopic pores trap facial foundation, bronzer, and denim dye, turning a crisp nude or pastel manicure dirty grey within forty-eight hours. Scrubbing with soap only makes it worse.

Velvet Suede uses perfectly spherical colloidal silica particles measuring under 2.5 microns. They scatter light evenly across all angles without leaving porous crevices. The surface is closed and hydrophobic.

If liquid foundation or food oil touches the nail, you simply wipe the surface with a lint-free spunlace pad damp with 99% isopropyl alcohol or mild hand soap. The stain lifts off cleanly, restoring the original soft-touch cashmere texture without yellowing.

Spherical Micro-Silica < 2.5 micron particles eliminate porous dirt traps
Hydrophobic Shield Repels denim indigo, coffee, and cosmetic makeup oils
Specular Reflection Under 3.2 GU at 60 degrees (completely flat suede)
Nail Technician Inquiry • Application Technique
"Why do some matte top coats leave shiny streaks around the sidewalls or cloudy white patches over black polish?"
Glossiques Desk Reply Sedimentation & Capping Benchmarks

Two things cause that defect: settled silica and incomplete edge coverage. Silica particles are denser than liquid oligomer resin. If the bottle sits upright on a shelf for three days, the matting agents settle slightly toward the bottom. If you do not roll the bottle between your palms before use, you paint a mixture with too little silica, causing shiny perimeter streaks.

Secondly, if you apply the coat too thickly, the silica clusters together into cloudy white drifts over dark backgrounds. You must roll the bottle gently for 20 seconds, paint a medium-thin coat, cap the free edge, and cure for a full 60 seconds in a 48W LED lamp.

After curing, you must wait 30 seconds, then wipe the micro-dispersion film with a saturated alcohol wipe. The white cloudiness instantly disappears, leaving an immaculate, uniform satin surface.

Client Objection • Rub-In Powder Art
"Can I rub chrome or holographic powders directly onto this matte top coat?"
Glossiques Desk Reply Art Protocol Limitations

No. Chrome powders require an ultra-smooth specular mirror ground like our Glass Shield No-Wipe Top Coat ($16 USD per 15 ml). Because Velvet Suede creates a light-scattering micro-textured surface, chrome powder rubbed on top will look like dull tarnished metal rather than liquid mirror.

However, nail artists frequently use Velvet Suede as a contrasting base for 3D glossy art. You paint the entire nail with Velvet Suede, cure and wipe it, and then paint glossy droplets or French lines using Glass Shield on top. The contrast between suede satin and wet-mirror glass is one of the most durable studio design effects we produce in Charlotte.

Satin Suede Protocol

Sequential protocol for streak-free cashmere matte finish.

Practiced daily at our Charlotte workstation since 2022. Follow these five procedural steps to ensure uniform diffusion without cloudiness or shiny streaks.

01
Palmar Suspension Rolling
Roll the 12 ml bottle between the palms of your hands for 20 to 30 seconds. Never shake the bottle vigorously, which whips air bubbles into the thick resin. Palmar rolling evenly redisperses the sub-micron silica particles throughout the oligomer matrix.
Action: Horizontal palmar roll Time: 20–30 seconds Prohibition: Do not shake vigorously
02
Even Medium-Thin Coating
Wipe one side of the brush against the bottle neck. Deposit the gel in the center of the nail and smooth out to the lateral edges. Avoid heavy flooding, which causes localized silica clustering over dark pigments.
Thickness: Medium-thin uniform Margin: 0.5 mm from cuticles Brush Angle: 45 degrees glide
03
Free-Edge Seal Application
Carefully run the brush along the leading tip of the nail plate. Sealing the free edge with matte top coat protects color coats from chipping and stops household moisture from lifting the distal edge.
Edge: Light peripheral swipe Check: No drip beneath plate Stability: Moisture barrier
04
60-Second UV/LED Lamp Cure
Cure under a 48W UV/LED bench lamp for a full 60 seconds. Do not interrupt the cycle early. The optical UV inhibitors and matting oligomers require full exposure to achieve scratch resistance.
Apparatus: 48W UV/LED Duration: 60 seconds full Wavelength: 365 nm + 405 nm dual
05
Alcohol Micro-Film Cleansing
Allow nails to cool for 30 seconds. Saturate a spunlace lint-free wipe with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the plate firmly in one continuous stroke to remove the micro-dispersion layer. The velvety suede texture blooms instantly.
Rest: 30 seconds post-lamp Solvent: 99% IPA on spunlace wipe Result: Cashmere soft-touch matte
